Vision and Hearing Resource Fair: Part of the Helen Keller 2.0 Challenge! Vision &Hearing Resource Fair, 20 info-packed vendors, eyeglass sorting for those in need, fun games. It’s an awesome fun day. fun + service = impact!

Vision and Hearing Resources Fair, proudly organized by a dedicated committee of Lions and Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB): Colette Arvidson(Multiple District 19O/CCB/WCB), Charles Bailey(Multiple District 19O/CCB), Georgia Medwedrich (Multiple District 19L), Bill Scholl (Multiple District 19N), Ann McNabb (CCB), Bill Conway (Multiple District 19L/CCB) and Jocelyn Wan (Multiple District 19L), Alec Wong (19L)  And couldn’t have done it without the help of the Leos, and local Lions as well!

Any other Canadian Lions interested in learning more about the resources available to Canadians experiencing loss of vision, contact Colette.Arvidson@gmail.com, MD19 KOTB Committee for a copy of our Resource Fair list of vendors with a brief description of services provided by each as well as contact information.  And if you’d like to have an event like this in your neighborhood, let us know and we will assist you in gathering your local representatives.  We are fortunate to have members of the Canadian Council of the Blind and American Council of the Blind who are Lions as well!  By learning about these resources, we can truly be Knights of the Blind in our communities!

This important event is designed to raise awareness and offer educational resources related to vision and hearing health. The fair also proudly promotes the Helen Keller 2.0 Challenge, marking 100 years since Helen Keller’s historic challenge to the Lions to become “knights of the blind.”

In 1925, at a Lions convention, Heller Keller asked a very important question. “Will you, LIONS, be the Knights of the Blind?”

In honour of this 100th anniversary, the CCB BC-Yukon Division drafted a letter of recognition. Below is a photo of Comox Valley White Cane chapter President, Pat Chicquen, presenting a framed copy to Comox Lions President, Patty Classen.

About the (CCB) BC-Yukon Division:

The CCB BC-Yukon Division is part of a national organization founded in 1944 by blind war veterans.  Within the CCB BC-Yukon Division there are more than 300 members who belong to Chapters throughout BC.  The CCB is a self-help consumer organization encouraging and supporting the well-being of blind and partially sighted individuals to achieve their full potential through peer support, social activity, guidance, education, employment and public awareness – bringing the blind, partially sighted and sighted together.
CCB Chapters traditionally meet monthly offering friendship and support, as well as opportunities to participate in social, recreational and educational activities.  Each Chapter’s activities depend on their focus and needs – bowling, curling, guest speakers, lunches, table bowling and dragon boating are some of those interests.
